I use AI assistants as editing and brainstorming tools. Concretely, that means pressure-testing arguments before committing to them, suggesting organizational structure for drafted pieces, tightening prose that runs long, generating headline and subject-line options, and creating header images. On occasion, I also use them to summarize dense technical reports so I can quickly identify which sections require further attention.
Here is what they do not do:
They do not decide what subjects I write about.
They do not supply any facts, figures, dates or quotes. Every claim in these essays comes directly from a primary and secondary sources I have read, and full source citations are listed at the bottom of each piece.
They do not write any final drafts. If a sentence survives to my publication, it is because I chose it.
